Dade County Circuit Clerk and Court Records

The Dade County Circuit Clerk maintains all court records for criminal cases filed in the county. This includes felony charges, misdemeanor cases, traffic violations with criminal elements, and other matters that go through the circuit court. The Circuit Clerk's office is located at the courthouse in Greenfield, Missouri.

Copy fees at the Circuit Clerk's office are $0.25 per page for standard copies and $1.50 per document for certified copies. If you need official documentation for legal or employment purposes, a certified copy carries the court's seal and signature. You can request copies in person during business hours. For most routine case lookups, the free online system described below is faster.

The Dade County Circuit Clerk's office also handles civil cases, family law matters, and probate filings. For criminal records specifically, you can search case details, docket entries, charges, and judgments without visiting the courthouse by using Missouri Case.net.

Note: certified copies carry a fee even when the underlying record is public. Ask the clerk about current fee schedules before submitting a request, as fees can change.

Searching Court Records on Case.net

Missouri runs a statewide online court records system called Case.net that covers all 114 counties, including Dade County. It's free to use and does not require you to set up an account. You can search by a person's name, a specific case number, a range of filing dates, or a scheduled hearing date.

Case.net shows case status, charges, docket entries, parties, and judgments. It does not show document images. If you need the full text of a motion, plea agreement, or sentencing order, you need to request those from the Circuit Clerk in Greenfield. But for identifying whether a case exists, what charges were filed, and how a case resolved, Case.net is the best free starting point.

Results from Case.net are generally reliable for cases that have been entered into the system. Cases filed many years ago may have limited detail depending on when they were digitized. Juvenile cases and certain sealed matters do not appear in public search results.

Dade County Sheriff's Office and Arrest Records

The Dade County Sheriff's Office handles law enforcement across the county and maintains the jail in Greenfield. When someone is arrested in Dade County, the arresting agency creates a record with the person's name, charges, booking details, and bond information. For arrests made by the Sheriff's Office, those records are held at the Sheriff's Office.

You can contact the Dade County government to find current contact information for the Sheriff's Office and to learn the best way to submit a records request. In-person requests during normal business hours are the most reliable way to get arrest records, especially for recent bookings that may not yet appear in online systems.

Under Missouri's Sunshine Law (Chapter 610), arrest records are public once a case is closed. Section 610.105 says that if someone is arrested but not charged within 30 days, the arrest record becomes closed. Records for cases that were dismissed or resulted in acquittals also close. Active cases and convicted matters are generally open to the public.

Statewide Criminal Background Checks Through MACHS

The Missouri Automated Criminal History Site (MACHS) lets anyone run a name-based criminal background check for $15. The check covers criminal history from across all of Missouri, not just Dade County. You do not need the subject's consent to run a name-based check. The result is a "possible match" based on open public records including convictions, recent arrests, and pending charges.

If you want a more complete and verified result, a fingerprint-based MACHS search costs $20 for state records or about $41.75 with the federal FBI check. Fingerprint searches return a "positive match" and include closed records and some expunged data. You must schedule an appointment with IDEMIA for fingerprinting. Processing takes 7 to 10 business days for state checks.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol CJIS Division runs the MACHS system and serves as the official state criminal history repository. Their office is at 1510 East Elm Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101, and their phone is (573) 526-6153.

DOC Offender Search and Sex Offender Registry

The Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search lets you look up active probationers, parolees, and current state prison inmates by name. It does not show discharged offenders. This tool is free and useful when you know someone served time in a Missouri state facility and want to check on their current supervision status.

The Missouri Sex Offender Registry is maintained by the Highway Patrol and lets you search by name, date of birth, or address. Results include photos, addresses, and offense details for registered offenders in Dade County and across the state. The toll-free number is 1-888-767-6747. The registry covers compliant offenders, non-compliant offenders, and those who have moved out of state.

Expungement Under Missouri Law

Missouri lets eligible people have criminal records destroyed or closed under RSMo Section 610.140. For misdemeanors, the waiting period is three years after the case ends. For felonies, it is seven years. You must also have no other convictions beyond minor traffic violations, no pending charges, and all fines and restitution paid.

Missouri limits each person to one felony expungement and two misdemeanor expungements total. You file the petition in the circuit court where the original case was heard. For Dade County cases, that is the Dade County Circuit Court in Greenfield. If approved, all state agencies must destroy their records. If denied, you wait one year before refiling.

Expungement removes records from the public view and from most background checks. It does not apply to all offense types. The MSHP CJIS Division can tell you what records exist and how expungement would affect a specific record.

Note: even after expungement, certain agencies such as law enforcement and courts may retain access to records under limited circumstances defined by state law.
